Work has now finished on installing a new tilting weir
and asociated piling at the western end of Southern Boundary Drain.
This structure will be adjustable and will allow fine control over
the water levels in the Southern Canals area of Thorne Moors.
The Canals area has seen significant increases in water levels
in recent years as a result of works carried out by Natural England
and, in many places, Sphagnum moss has returned to the
drowned cuttings, thereby beginning a new round of raised mire
growth.
