Work will commence this winter on raising water levels in the
Green Belt area of Thorne Moors. Pre-works scub clearance has
already taken place in this area, funded by Natural England and the
Humberhead Levels Nature Improvement Area (NIA). This work will be
done through installing plastic piling and peat bunding. In
addition four steel pile dams will be installed in the area as well
as two additional ones at Blue Bridge and on Crowle Moors.
This work is essential for the future control of water levels on
the moors in order to encourage the growth of peat-forming
vegetation, such as Sphagnum mosses.
If you would like any further information on the proposed works
this winter, please contact the project team.
