There has been considerable publicity surrounding this issue in
recent months and, as part of the investigations into the reasons
behind the recent flooding events in Crowle, members of the project
team have attended public meetings in Crowle and Ealand as well as
additional meetings at North Lincs Council offices in
Scunthorpe.
During these meetings the project team made it clear that there
was no link between the flooding incidents in Crowle and the work
being undertaken on North Lincs Council land on Crowle
Moors. Most of the work being undertaken on Crowle Moors
is designed to retain water on the site and not discharge it
into the surrounding pumped catchment, thus acting as a flood
storage reservopir at times of high rainfall. This works
here cannot affect the town of Crowle as the level of the
impounded water is at around 2m above sea level, whereas the bulk
of Crowle itself is above the 4m contour as well as being 1km away
from the site with a number of drains at sea level on the
land in between.
